Destin History & Fishing Museum

Lil’bit of Heart Photography

The Destin History & Fishing Museum is dedicated to preserving, documenting, and sharing the stories of the little fishing village that was founded on the sandy shores of East Pass in the 1830s.

Destin has long been a favorite destination for saltwater game fishers, and it also houses one of the state’s major commercial fishing fleets.

The museum focuses on both commercial and recreational fishing, with exhibits that include fishing equipment, photographs, and first-hand tales from prior fishermen.

This museum isn’t the largest, but don’t be fooled by its size. It’s jam-packed with fascinating histories. Every nook and cranny of that museum has something to offer.

Get a sense of what life was like in Destin before electricity arrived in the 1930s. Visit the original Destin Post Office, which is located right next door.

Take your time because there is a lot to learn from it. Their store also has a lot of nice products at SUPER LOW rates. We went to other supermarkets in Florida and found that the same things cost 3-4 times as much.

So, if you like something, go ahead, buy it. We had a great time there.

There’s also a large display of preserved fish collected throughout the years, as well as some vintage fishing rods and reels, including ones that formerly belonged to Ernest Hemingway.
