Privacy Policy

Who we are

Travelaroundplaces.com values the privacy of all individuals who visit its website and/or use its services.

We are committed to being transparent about how we collect, utilize and disclose information obtained from visitors and customers and the options available to them regarding this information.

Our privacy policy is written in simple language and is designed to be clear, honest, and precise. It explains the types of personal data we gather and the reasons for doing so.

Comments

When individuals leave comments on the site, we gather the information displayed in the comment form as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to assist with spam detection.

An anonymized string based on the visitor’s email address may be shared with the Gravatar service to verify if it is being used. The privacy policy for the Gravatar service can be found at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once the comment is approved, the visitor’s profile picture will be visible to the public in relation to the comment.

Media

It is recommended that individuals avoid uploading images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS) if they upload images to the website. Visitors to the website can download and extract location data from images on the website, but at the moment, there is no capability for users to upload images.

Cookies

When leaving a comment on our site, individuals have the option to save their name, email address, and website in cookies for convenience. This prevents them from re-entering their information when leaving another comment. These cookies will remain active for one year.

Since we do not have a registration form, we will not request personal information such as name, email address, or any other contact details unless a comment is left in response to one of our articles.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on our website may contain embedded content from other websites, such as videos, images, and articles. This embedded content behaves in a similar way as if the visitor had directly visited the other website.

These websites may gather information about the visitor, use cookies, including additional third-party tracking, and monitor the visitor’s interaction with the embedded content, including tracking their interactions if they have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics and Matomo software to understand where our visitors are coming from and how many users visit our website each day, month, year, and so on.

This software provides us with your IP address as well as some generalized Geo-IP information. For added security and anonymity, your IP address is anonymized.

For example, instead of a specific IP address such as 192.168.100.200, your IP address is viewed as 192.168.XXX.XXX. Please see Google’s Privacy Policy as well as Matomo’s Privacy Policy for more information.

Who we share your data with

Unless otherwise specified, we do not share your information with any third parties.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us.

You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Your information is not sent to anyone, but is instead stored in a database on our LiquidWeb server. For more information, please see LiquidWeb’s Privacy Policy.

Please keep in mind that visitor comments may be screened by an automated spam detection service. This reduces incoming spam and keeps comments relevant.

How we protect your data

We protect your data by implementing the most recent encryption services provided by our WebHost, LiquidWeb. All of your stored data is actively monitored for breaches and kept secure from hackers and other potential threats.

What data breach procedures we have in place

If your information is compromised for any reason at any time, we will notify our website visitors within 15 days.

This will be done via email to those who have left comments on our website, as this is the only way we have to contact you because we only collect anonymized IP addresses, names, and email addresses.

Changes to our Privacy Policy

We review our privacy policy on a regular basis and will post any updates on this website. This privacy statement was most recently updated on Feb 2nd, 2022.
